How do I get promoted to high school?


  • Earn 12 specific core credits – An annual grade of 60% or better is required for credit to be issued.
  • Complete a Career and Education Planning Course. 
  • Take and pass Civics course.

Language Arts 1 or Language Arts 1 Advanced/Gifted
Language Arts 2 or Language Arts 2 Advanced/Gifted
Language Arts 3 or Language Arts 3 Advanced/Gifted



Grade 6 Mathematics or Grade 6 Mathematics Advanced
Grade 7 Mathematics or Grade 7 Mathematics Advanced
Grade 8 Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1 Honors or Geometry Honors



Earth/Space Science or Earth/Space Science Advanced/Gifted
Life Science or Life Science Advanced/Gifted
Physical Science or Physical Science Advanced/Gifted

Social Studies


Social Studies Course or World History or World History Advanced/Gifted
Civics or Civics Advanced/Gifted
Social Studies Course or US History or US History Advanced/Gifted



Completion of Career and Education Planning Course – The requirement can be met as a stand-alone course or integrated into a course that is on the approved list.

Total Credits



The School District of Lee County has a “zero progression” policy. This means that regardless of a student’s credit standing, they will be promoted from 6th to 7th grade, and from 7th to 8th grade. Students lacking credit requirements for promotion to 9th grade will be retained in 8th grade.
