Action Meeting - February 4, 2025

Recognitions

The Board recognized:

  • Carl Burnside, Principal of Dunbar High School, as the 2025 Principal of the Year.
  • Jill Cooke, Assistant Principal at North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts, as the 2025 Assistant Principal of the Year.
  • Margaret “Peggy” Quinn, Instructional Support specialist at Trafalgar Middle School, as the 2025 School Related Employee of the Year.
  • Barbara Rebeor, Science Teacher at Harns Marsh Middle School, as the 2025 Teacher of the Year.
  • Nicole Joly-O'Brien, Kindergarten Teacher at Tortuga Preserve Elementary School, Carlton Saunderson, Math Teacher at Dunbar High School, and Kimberly Blakely, Math Teacher at North Fort Myers High School, as finalists for the 2025 Teacher of the Year.
  • Fifteen elementary schools, eight middle schools, seven high schools, and five K-8 schools and special centers, for earning their Level 1 Certification in Marzano High Reliability Schools.
  • Six elementary schools, four middle schools, one high school, and three K-8 schools and special centers, for earning Level 2 Certification in Marzano High Reliability Schools.
  • Cara Canino, Lehigh Elementary School, Chelsea Mendez, Professional Development Department, Kimberly Angel, Pelican Elementary School, Michelle Lewis, Lehigh Elementary School, and Tana Compton, Buckingham Exceptional Student Center, for earning Level 1 Marzano High Reliability Teacher Certification.
  • Mariner High School JROTC cadet, Adrielle Acosta, for receiving the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross Award. The award is voted on by a group of Medal of Honor recipients and honors cadets for their academic achievement and extracurricular accomplishments.
  • Caloosa Middle School and Mariner High School for being recognized as a Purple Star School of Distinction. The designation recognizes schools for their support of a military family's unique needs.

Consent Action Items

The School Board approved:

  • The Superintendent Scholarship Agreement with Florida Prepaid to provide up to five 2-Year College Scholarships (each valued at approximately $8,000) for the Superintendent to award to up to five students in the School District of Lee County.
  • An amendment to the charter school contract with Southwest Charter Foundation, Inc., d/b/a Six Mile Charter Academy to be renamed Innovation Preparatory Academy of South Ft. Myers.
  • The 12-Month (255-day) Employee Calendar for 2025-2026 School Year.
  • Funding for the FY26 Employment Wellness Incentive Program at a maximum of $800 per employee.'
  • Award ITB No. CB25-0145AN for Demolition Services for Hector A. Cafferata, Jr. Elementary School, to Honc Destruction, Inc., in Fort Myers, FL, and approval of the $294,444 total project cost.
  • Funding for scoreboard replacements at The Alva School, Cypress Lake High School, and Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School.
  • Funding for paving and resurfacing projects at Success Academy, Sunshine Elementary, James Stephens Elementary, Challenger Middle School, and Three Oaks Middle School.
