COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 Update

Good afternoon School District Families,

We hope you had time to relax this summer and are now getting ready for the start of school. We are excited to welcome students back to campus on August 10th. For the 2022-2023 school year the District has made some updates to our Health and COVID-19 protocols we want you to be aware of.

First, many of the required health related forms that families must review and sign before the start of school are ONLY available digitally via the Focus Parent Portal. One prominent change is that parents/guardians MUST fill out an opt-in form in order for their child to receive services at the school clinics. It is imperative that you register for an account if you do not already have one to not only access these forms, but also to view other important academic information about your student(s).

As COVID-19 continues to affect members of our community, the District will follow guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control and the Florida Department of Health (FDOH). We will continue to follow Rule: 64D-3.029 in the identification of clusters of any illness, whether it's COVID, respiratory, gastrointestinal, rash, etc. and report to FDOH for further investigation. Due to this update, the District will no longer require students and staff to fill out a COVID Incident Report. Therefore, the District will also discontinue the use of the Incident Reporting Log.

The District will also no longer use the COVID Matrix to identify action steps for students and staff during the different levels of transmission. Instead, we will be practicing our COVID-19 preventative measures during all community levels. These include practicing proper hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, providing hand-sanitizer, practicing regular cleaning, and maintaining fresh air circulation with the use of HVAC systems. Our website has been updated to reflect these protocols.

The use of face masks continues to be optional. If members of our student and/or staff population choose to wear a mask, please encourage others to be respectful of their choice.

The most important message we’d like to send is that students should stay home if they are sick. If your child has symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19, they will now follow the same protocols in the flowchart attached to this email.

You can obtain free test kits via To further assist you with questions, we have updated the FAQs on our website related to COVID-19. If you still need further assistance, please contact your child’s school or the School District’s Health Services Department.

Thank you,
The School District of Lee County
